Ideas, that won't go away...

Hello Everybody,

Do you know that...? An idea that is like a bee in your bonnet...

So it was like for me as I first heard about decoupage a long time - about 15 years - ago. I was fascinated by that technique right from the start. How fast and easy you are able to decorate various objects, I was thrilled!
In German decoupage is also called "napkin technique", since you often use the thin, top layer of a napkin. In English the word "decoupage" is often used or simply "mod podge". Mod podge is a brand of glue that is used for that kind of craft.

But no matter what you call it, you need a design, either on a thin piece of decoupage paper or on a napkin in order to make your decorations dreams come true...
And I often coudn't find exactly the design that I wanted on thin paper or napkins.
A lot of people use regular printouts on office paper for decoupage. I tried that, too. But in my opinion the results are not as beautiful with office printouts than when you use very thin decoupage paper.

And there was my idea: I wanted to make my own thin decoupage paper...

But this is not as easy as it sounds. My goal was to have a real thin decoupage paper. It should be soft and pliable and should easily bend around corners without too many wrinkles.
And for my decoupage projects with beautiful natural wood I wanted a paper that would leave the woodgrain still visible after decorating. So I was looking for a paper, that would achieve that. Additionally I wanted an individual paper with my own pictures and texts.
You see: Lot's of challenges :-)

So I did a lot of experimenting the last few years: I tried various printing methods and paper types - and I was not always successful - I have to admit: I even ruined one printer with my experiments.
But I remember, that Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb, once said: I have not failed. I've just found 1000 ways that won't work.

And now I did it!
I am able to transfer any photo or design to very thin decoupage paper. You can buy that paper in my shops at Ebay or Etsy. And of course there is my own Dekoversum Shop.

So what will happen next on Dekoversum?
I will post basic decoupage instructions and DIY ideas that use decoupage paper. And I will introduce my own paper designs and tell some little stories behind the designs.

I hope to see you again soon!

And it's Friday and I'm happy about my new blog, so this post will go to Funtastic Friday and Friday Favorites.

  1. What a great new site!! So fun! Can't wait to see all your new papers! (And, my kids would be SO impressed to know that you own a Star Trek uniform! I might be a little impressed too!) :-)

    1. Thank You :-) The uniform is a handmade one, a red Startrek TNG uniform. And I have a communicator with real sound effects, too :-) Unfortunately I'm not very good at sewing, so the uniform doesn't fit perfectly. But one day I'm taking some sewing classes and going to make a new one :-)
